The lyrics of the song are quite explicit as for the meaning behind the song. The song is about how Mexican people (the nationality of the singers) are criticized by Americans and are even welcome in their country. However this is quite ironic for the land the Americans claim as theirs once upon a time belonged to Mexico,before it was stolen by the United States (This fact appears at the end of the song with the name of each state that used to be in the other line of the frontier).

The singers are angry that their land was taken away and now they are called invaders when they go to the United States by the real invaders. As controversial as the song and its inspiration (the different events) may seem these has actually occurred before with the variation of details and particulars. 

Many places regions have been taken advantage of and the people from those regions have been mistreated. Or some powerful countries use their influence to gain control over weaker territories. In the case of the song United States fought against Mexico (United States being a much stronger country and therefor having a gigantic lead) and won. The victory gave the United States the possibility of taking land from Mexico and so that’s what they did. Some examples of the events are:  the territories that were taken by big nations during and after big wars (WWI and WWII) or the territories that were colonized by the Europeans.

This unfairness is often reflected in art expressions (literature, paintings, music…) because art allows people to express their feelings. The song by “Los tigres del norte” is only an example among many such as: The Guernica by Pablo Picasso (A painting that portrays some attacks done by the Nazis). Or Animal Farm by George Orwell that described the damages done by a totalitarian state using animals and humans in a farm. Another example is the Russian nationalist music group called “the mightily five” which refused to external influences in their country and therefore created their own style of nationalist music that could really be Russian music.

In conclusion, the song “Somos mas Americanos” and its meaning is simply the expression of feelings, via art, caused by certain events that cause especial reactions in the. In this case the singers used music to explain how they felt about the unfairness in which Mexico and its people had been treated. A common situation in the examples name above is that the artist that created the piece of art is affected by what happens to its nation and therefor, it could be said that there is a special bond between the place where people are born and the people. And so this bond and the feelings of the artist for its “land” is what allows the piece of art to be created.
